Opportunity Overview
Reporting to the CI Director, as Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing general procedures and driving CI initiatives to meet performance metrics. You will work with people and processes throughout the two St. Cloud facilities (within walking distance of each other). You'll review the KPIs and financials of each project with Finance, and maintain a procedure-oriented mindset, leveraging Lean methodologies to standardize processes and implement improvements. You will serve as a visible presence on the floor, beginning with one project and ramping up once you are acclimated. 

Role Details
As our CI Engineer, you will establish a clear system, leveraging software such as MS Project, Excel, etc., to track and report the status of all projects, and maintain a dynamic list of new ideas. You will collect ideas from a variety of stakeholders, including leadership, vendors, operators, Quality and customers, to build the list of ideas, then benchmark them with other projects and establish priorities. 

Specifically, you will:
  • Manage operations projects and work with the lab areas including productivity improvement, Kaizen events, waste reduction, improvement yields, 6S, Standard work instruction development, and total cost of quality initiatives
  • Drive standardization and sustainability before/after any new implementation or change by:
    • Leading a weekly meeting with leadership to discuss the changes in advance of implementation
    • Confirming all documentation (e.g. procedures/SOPs, checklists, visual aids) is finalized and effective
    • Auditing all changes and new processes to ensure adherence to standards and make changes to start corrective actions based on the results of the audit(s)

  • Assist in the development of requirements for Spotfire and Salesforce.com and training for laboratory personnel
  • Issue weekly metrics, analyze gaps, develop action plans based on data collection
  • Assist in new equipment deployment and necessary training on new processes
  • Maintain consistency in processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through required documentation
  • Ensure that the defined methodology is followed using standardized reporting for benchmarking, communication, and project management

The Labs
Between the two labs, we have 560 employees and process 13,000 orders per day. These are comprehensive labs covering all required optical processes -- coating surfacing and finishing. You will support CI projects for both labs. We run 3 shifts, 5 days per week, with occasional overflow to the weekend.
