To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. To be a strong fit for the EHS Engineer role, you will have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field 
  • 3-5 years’ experience as an EHS Engineer or similar role, ideally in an FDA regulated environment 
  • A background in chemicals
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and FDA codes and requirements 
  • A strong safety background
  • Experience Interpreting and communicating regulations and standards
  • Ability to train operators and other employees on standards
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office programs
  • Ability to influence without having direct authority
  • A hands-on approach with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive a dynamic, fast-growth environment
  • Schedule flexibility
  • Certifications, such as safety are an advantage
You will primarily work day shift hours, approximately 8 AM to 5 PM, but will train across all three shifts. Schedule flexibility will be key in order to train employees, do audits, investigations and other tasks as needed.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Manager, as EHS Engineer, you will work with the corporate EHS team in Dallas and be accountable for implementing company-wide policies for all functional areas of the Columbus plant to protect the safety, health and environmental aspects of employees, and to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. 

You will work across all functional areas of the facility including lab departments for the production of optical lenses, the warehouse and shipping and receiving. We do high volume production with mass customization, using milder chemicals, machine and manual processes. You will implement, train and track a behavioral safety program, implement KPIs and monitor results, write SOPs, do audits and investigations as needed and more. 

Specific duties will include:
  • Developing and delivering EHS training
  • Performing audits, inspections and assessments as needed and required
  • Monitoring and assuring compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations
  • Implementing EHS policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Responding to and reporting incidents, and facilitating root cause analysis as necessary
  • Supporting the development and implementation of site-level EHS management systems
  • Manage waste streams, finding recycling solutions rather than sending waste to the landfill
  • Documenting all activities as required

To excel in this role you will dedicate yourself to learning then start making contributions. There is plenty to do, and you'll need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. We're looking for a professional who is organized and detail-oriented, brings strong ideas to the table, but also can implement the program per corporate guidelines and standards. 

You should expect to spend a good deal of time on the production floor, observing team members and coaching them when necessary. Your interpersonal skills will be essential as you reinforce a behavioral-based approach to safety, acting as a knowledgeable partner and expert, rather than an enforcer.
