To be a good fit for this Finish Supervisor - 3rd Shift opportunity, you will have:
  • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business management or a related field (preferred)
  • 3+ years of direct supervisory / management experience in a fast-paced production environment with proven track record of success 
  • Demonstrated competence in supervisory skills, including motivating employees to meet performance goals, strong communication skills, and a high level of comfortability with coaching and training individuals and teams 
  • An understanding of how to improve processes and adjust employees’ tasks to balance workflow
  • Computer skills including using email, and proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English
  • The ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner, both verbally and in writing
  • The willingness and ability to engage with the workforce and create a positive environment and culture
Preferred but not required:
  • 3+ years of optical lab experience is preferred, especially experience with digital surfacing technology
  • Previous experience implementing Lean and Six Sigma process improvements
  • Previous experience working with statistical analysis tools to gather and report data would be helpful
Things you need to know:
  • You may work with and around chemicals
  • The role may require sitting and/or standing for extended periods
  • You'll need to be able to lift and move up to 15 lbs. to waist height on a regular basis

Role Overview

As the Finish Supervisor - 3rd Shift, you’ll oversee a team of up to 18 direct reports with the goal to ensure production is efficient by monitoring work and organizing workflows. You’ll spend most of your time on the floor engaging with employees, monitoring workflows, and keeping everything moving smoothly. You’ll also ensure systems are followed, work quality is high, and completing any counseling for employees as needed. Your key goals will be to meet performance standards, engage in strong communication to your team and to your manager, and troubleshoot as needed throughout your shifts. 

Your work schedule will usually run from Sunday night through Friday morning, arriving around 10:30 pm (your team begins at 11pm) and leaving around 7:30 am once you’ve had time to do any changeover communication as needed with the arriving first shift supervisor. Your schedule may vary slightly depending on the day, workload, and needs of the business, with the expectation that you will sometimes come in during an off-shift for meetings, or may be asked to work Friday or come in early on a Sunday evening if needed.

When you have questions or need support you can turn to the third shift supervisors for other departments who will be in the facility with you, or can always connect with Surface Supervisors in our other facilities.

Role Specifics

Some of your specific tasks will be to:
  • Set daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicate them to employees.
  • Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting and training employees, and developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Manage projects to improve processes throughout the department for the purpose of improving production and quality levels. Identify issues in efficiency, suggest and execute improvements.
  • Maintain responsibility for all aspects of Performance Management to include disciplining employees for violations to any company and or department policy.
  • Organize workflow by assigning responsibilities and preparing work and vacation schedules.
  • Check production output according to specifications to ensure that set goals will be met. If not, necessary adjustments will need to be made.
  • Submit reports on performance and progress.
  • Control labor and material cost.
  • Build a cohesive team, lead by example and manage directly through multiple supervisors and/or leads.
  • Ensure the safe use of equipment and schedule regular maintenance.
