To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the R&D Engineer opportunity, you will have:
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in thermoplastic processing including injection molding, compounding, extrusion, FDM 3D printing, film lamination, and thermoforming
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in polymer material and structure characterization techniques including rheology, microscopy, FTIR, DSC, DMA, and TMA  Quick question for you - click here
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g. Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) with 2-4 years of practical experience with relevant equipment and processes; equivalent experience in lieu of a technical degree will be considered  Quick question for you - click here
  • Leadership and project management experience
  • Ability to document process and experimental results with proper lab notebook entries, technical memos, and give presentations
  • Ability to independently evaluate, select, and apply standardized engineering procedures and techniques
  • Understanding of R&D program methodology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient use of mechanical design, modeling, programming or statistical analysis software may be required in specific cases
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus, ideally French, Thai, Mandarin, or Malay

Reporting to the Principal Scientist, as R&D Engineer II, you will work with R&D scientists to develop new thermoplastic products and processes integrating microstructures and light filters in existing and new thermoplastic materials. You will support the development of materials, equipment, and the associated processes used in ophthalmic lens manufacturing or processing. Additionally, you will hold responsibility for supporting the development of new products and processes by utilizing and integrating aspects of material science, chemistry, engineering, controls, statistics, and experimental tools. Specific key duties will include:
  • Performing work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, “hands on” experiments, experimental designs, systems, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features or for which there are precedents
  • Performing tasks /projects of a larger scope. You may lead specific tasks within the project / program scope
  • Preparing reports, documentation, and presentations; presenting information at technical meetings
  • Using and supporting the utilization of appropriate data management and capitalization tools
  • Supporting and generating innovation linked to active programs or studies
  • Proposing process, material, or mechanical improvements to support the R&D initiatives
  • Participating as an active member of a local and/or international research activity team
