To be a strong fit for the Coating Production Supervisor opportunity, you will have:
  • A 2-year associate's degree with a related focus preferred, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field
  • Significant experience working in a fast-paced production/manufacturing environment, preferably with coating/chemical processes, and ideally with mass customization
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience with past success motivating and coaching individuals and teams to meet performance goals 
  • Experience leading a shift team of 10+
  • Optical experience in a lab production environment highly preferred
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge (5S, Six Sigma)  
  • Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, intermediate Excel for reporting, and Outlook) and ability to learn web-based software
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to be a personable and positive influence while being assertive where appropriate, holding employees accountable for their performance

Reporting to the Coating Manager, as Production Supervisor, you will oversee and direct the Coating team including one Lead Associate and up to 20+ hourly Lab Techs responsible for all coating activities. You will communicate clear productivity and quality performance objectives, and ensure individuals and the team are meeting those objectives. You'll also ensure safety protocols are followed (i.e. PPE such as goggles and gloves, etc.). Note: You will be exposed to mild chemicals such as acetone, cleaner and stripper).

You'll arrive at work a bit before your team, allowing for overlap with the first shift for information exchange. Typically, you'll begin the shift with a meeting in order to inform your team of any potential issues and assignments. Throughout the shift, you will oversee processes, ensuring they are being done properly. There will be auditing, testing and validation to ensure quality, and you'll work closely with Engineers on audits, SOPs and PCPs. While there are some reporting responsibilities, the majority of the time, you will be on your feet and interacting with your team. Additionally, you will:
  • Be responsible for the Coating department production
  • Analyze workflow, yields, labor and production requirements and constraints, and quality issues; proactively identify problems
  • Manage process improvement projects as needed to increase production and quality levels
  • Work with lab management and Human Resources to staff the department
  • Participate in the hiring, orientation and training of new coating personnel
  • Evaluate employee performance; discipline employees according to company policy as needed 
  • Train Coating employees on new processes or to improve skills
  • Maintain performance records on employees, including review of time records; routinely communicate performance and coach employees on methods and techniques for performance improvement
  • Schedule employees' work time and vacation time
  • Maintain department budget including labor and equipment costs
  • Assist in analyzing and recommending the purchase of new equipment for the Coating department as needed
  • Analyze problems that arise and determine actions that will minimize the problems, decrease costs and/or improve yields; recommend changes to Production Manager and, upon approval, implement those changes
  • Ensure that all safety standards are maintained in the work area at all times
  • Perform other duties as required
