  • 5+ years of experience working in a Quality discipline, either as a Quality Engineer or in a role with significant Quality responsibilities in an optical or wholesale laboratory (preferred) or production environment. Quick question for you - click here
  • Demonstrated facilitation / training skills, preferably in an optical and/or optical laboratory environment. Quick question for you - click here
  • Experience with modern quality practices and applications.
  • Team-oriented, with strong personal commitment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Outstanding computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs (e.g. Word, Access, PowerPoint and high-level Excel).
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Capability Process Control, process sampling systems and procedures and statistical techniques.
  • Superior knowledge of ISO Quality system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of ophthalmic manufacturing process and coating process preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, ISO 13485 or ISO 9000, and/or Six Sigma Green Belt is an advantage.
  • ASQ Certification is a plus.
  • Ability to travel on occasion, for meetings, to visit other labs, etc.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, as Quality Engineer, you will join a growing team also including a Quality Supervisor and data analysts. Daily, you will contribute to Quality activities including documentation development, the Document Control and Corrective Action Request systems' operation and maintenance, validation planning, internal auditing, quality metrics analysis and reporting, and more. You will support process control and improvement activities using statistical analysis and modern basic quality practices (e.g. histograms, Pareto charts, SPC, data collection and analysis, etc.), and assist in generating, monitoring, and communicating lab performance metrics to identify areas requiring process control and/or improvements. Specifically, you will:
  • Be responsible for:
    • The creation, modification, and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
    • The operation and maintenance of the Document Control system, including database maintenance, issuing documents, archiving obsolete documents, the document approval cycle, etc.
  • Operate, maintain, and communicate the corrective and preventive action system; assist the lab in the proper use of Corrective Action Response forms
  • Use data analysis to drive quality improvements in concert with Production and Process Engineering teams.
  • Assist with:
    • Internal audits; report issues and follow-up on corrective actions
    • The evaluation of lab best practices, using the Document Control system to communicate these to the lab network
    • The development and communication of quality metrics to evaluate lab performance and direct process control and improvement activities
    • Communication strategies for Quality initiatives
    • Cosmetic Inspector Certification program deployment and maintenance
  • Other Quality related assignments and projects, as required and assigned
