Reporting to the Production Manager, you will oversee and direct the activities of the Coating department within the Chesapeake Optical Lab, an Essilor company, in Baltimore, MD. The lab runs three shifts and you will also support a group of 45+ employees across all shifts to ensure production goals are met, and standard procedures are being documented and followed.

As AR Coating Supervisor, you will be responsible for the daily coating production. The team is responsible for two major processes -- hard coating and anti-reflective coating, with half of the team focusing on each type. We've recently added hard coating -- a new technology for the lab -- which means the team is learning and a strong manager will help motivate and drive change. You'll also work closely with our process engineer and always keep an eye open for improvements. Other responsibilities will include;
  • Managing projects to improve processes throughout the department for the purpose of improving production and quality levels.

  • Assisting in analyzing and recommending the purchase of new equipment for the Coating department as needed.

Because the lab is seeing so many changes simultaneously -- growth, new hires, new processes, etc. -- this role requires a manager who can handle that complexity. Someone who can hire and build a team while also ensuring production KPIs are being met and that top quality remains the standard. You will lean heavily on your engineering background and on your ability to translate past production experience to an optical lab, but full success will be attained through leadership.

Because the pace is fast, those who excel here truly enjoy the dynamic environment and remain agile and able to pivot. In addition, in order to be an outstanding AR Coating Supervisor, you will:
  • Effectively manage people and processes
  • Develop your team leads so that they can develop others
  • Combine analytical skills with creativity in solving problems
  • Pay attention to details while also grasping the big picture
  • Keep a constant eye out for ways to improve processes
