To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Production Supervisor opportunity, you will have:
  • Minimum of a 2-year associate degree or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment; previous optical experience in a lab production environment preferred but not required.  Quick question for you - click here
  • Previous experience supervising a group of 10 or more employees.
  • A continuous improvement mindset; Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, coach, lead and develop individuals and the team.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; ability to bring out the best in employees while making them feel appreciated and keeping morale high.
  • Ability to hold people accountable respectfully and fairly, maintaining a positive approach to improving our lab’s quality, service level and productivity, while decreasing overall costs.
  • Ability to lead by example, demonstrating a teamwork mentality, pride, a strong work ethic, including dependability, and fostering respect.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills a must.
  • Analytic mindset combined with a passion to solve and improve problem areas.
  • Extensive experience in developing and executing procedures.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel) and the ability to effectively analyze data (overall quality, service levels, etc.)
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to meet production goals.
You can choose to work either the 2nd shift (4:00 PM-Midnight) or the 3rd shift (Midnight-8:00 AM), on a rotating Monday-Saturday schedule. Typically, you'll arrive before your shift and stay a bit after to interact and share information with leaders on the other shifts. Training will be done on the first shift.

Reporting to the Production Manager, as Production Supervisor, you will oversee and direct the activities of the Finishing, Quality and Shipping Departments at Southern Optical, an Essilor production lab. Depending upon your chosen shift, you will support a group of approximately 30 (2nd shift) or 20 (3rd shift) employees, including the Finishing, Quality and Shipping teams, to ensure production goals are met, and standard procedures are being documented and followed.  Quick question for you - click here

Your responsibilities will include planning and organizing production schedules; assessing necessary project and resource requirements then implementing continuous improvements in quality, service level, efficiency, positive employee engagement and morale, while balancing cost savings when factoring labor, consumables and maintenance savings.

Specifically, you will:

  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset to find efficient quality improvement methods and deliver accurate glasses to our customers in the shortest amount of time possible.
  • Engage with employees, actively listen to their ideas and keep them involved with daily team meetings.
  • Ensure Visual Management boards are updated continuously as a mechanism to invite employee participation and openly show appreciation for meeting goals. 
  • Leverage Workstream Teams for continuous improvements in 4 key areas including:
    • Employee Engagement
    • Quality Right First time (QRFT)
    • Flow and Balance (cycle time, WIP, Theory & Constraints)
    • Clean, Standardize, Audit & Improve (CSAI).
  • Increase yield while decreasing reworks (non-escaping defects and escaping defects), increasing quality, and delivering quality products to our customers on time. 
  • Forecast incoming orders to help balance employee work schedules with jobs per person per hour while eliminating overtime.
  • Participate in the hiring, orientation and training of new personnel; set standards and clear expectations.
  • Partner with Maintenance to maintain a solid, consistent Preventative Maintenance (PM) program to optimize equipment.
  • Train employees on new processes or to improve skills as needed; evaluate their performance; coach and discipline employees according to company policy as needed. 
  • Update a skills matrix to help identify which employees are best suited for each area to maximize output; identify cross-training needs by partnering with the Essilor Operations Excellence Training Team.
  • Uphold SOPS's for each workstation, and processes in all areas of responsibility, to help ensure best practices. 
  • Maintain employee performance records, routinely communicate performance, and coach employees on methods and techniques for improving performance including reviewing time, production numbers, teamwork, and quality records.
  • Maintain department budget goals by managing labor, consumables, defects and maintenance costs.
  • Ensure that all safety standards are maintained in the work areas.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.
